Summer Creative Writing Workshop
Creative Writing by Marilyn
Marilyn is a professional American writer with 10 years of teaching experience. She holds an MFA in Fiction Writing from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop, widely recognized as one of the most prestigious creative writing graduate programs in the United States. She is also a recipient of the PEN/Dau Writing Award. With extensive experience teaching and mentoring young writers, Marilyn helps students strengthen their creative voice, develop original ideas, and improve their writing across fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction.
Summer 2026 Creative Writing Course (Open to Students in Grades 7–9)
This 4-week creative writing course is designed for students in grades 7–9. Through small-group instruction and personalized feedback, students will explore three major genres of creative writing: poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.
Students will strengthen their English expression, original writing, close reading, and textual analysis skills while learning how to develop their own voice as young writers.

Course Highlights:
★ Evening Schedule, Easy to Fit Around Summer Activities
Online classes are held in the evening for U.S. students, allowing students to participate in daytime camps, outdoor activities, or other summer programs without conflict.
★ Small-Group Learning with Personalized Feedback
Each class is limited to 6–8 students, creating an interactive environment where every student receives individual attention and writing feedback.
★ 4 Weeks of Structured Writing Practice
Across 12 sessions, students will explore poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction through reading, discussion, writing exercises, and revision.

Creative Writing by Miss Cat
Cat holds a BA in English from Harvard University and an MFA in Fiction Writing from Columbia University, where she also taught undergraduate creative writing workshops as a Teaching Fellow. She has instructed students at Berklee College of Music and Columbia University, and at high schools in the United States and South Africa. Currently, she is an associate prose editor at a respected journal. Her short story won The Missouri Review’s 2019 Peden Prize, given to the best story in the journal’s volume year.
In this class, we will learn in a variety of ways: by reading and discussing popular short stories, both classic and contemporary; by participating in and critiquing writing exercises; and by receiving personal feedback on writing assignments.
Why do we need to learn creative writing?
In school, students are primarily exposed to academic writing, which is a useful skill, but can be dry. Studying creative writing allows students to strengthen their core writing skills while also learning to express themselves in fun and creative ways. The goals of this course are both to improve students’ writing skills and to stimulate their interest in reading and writing. Students will sharpen their critical reading and thinking skills while being exposed to a variety of authors and writing styles.

Creative Writing by Tom
Tom graduated from Harvard University with a major in English and American Literature. Tom is an Emmy-nominated PBS Writer/Producer/Director, with many years of experience in screenwriting. He has also served for PBS, The Public Broadcasting Service.
Shows created by Tom have gained audiences of thousands on radio, television, and the internet. He co-authored and produced all five seasons of NOVA's "The Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers," including character stories for Jane Goodall, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Bill Nye the Science Guy. This series was nominated for three Emmy Awards in 2019.
As a writer and producer in the education field, Tom has produced videos and interactive content for major educational institutions such as College Board, Pearson Online, Blended Learning, and the George Lucas Education Foundation.

Tony holds a BA in Philosophy and Film Studies from Amherst College, where he graduated cum laude and won the Film Studies Award, and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from the University of Iowa, where he designed and taught courses in literature and creative writing and won the Carl Klaus Teaching Award for "outstanding talent as a teacher of creative writing."
He has served as an editorial assistant for the Iowa Review and an assistant editor for the London Review of Books. He is an admissions essay consultant for law and business school, with clients accepted to MIT Sloan, Chicago Booth, Berkeley Haas, and the London Business School, among others. His sports, travel, and culture writing has appeared or is forthcoming in White Horses Magazine, Spiral Journal, The Surfer's Path, 68to05, and The Inertia.
